The Schloeppnerbrunnen Fen is located in Northern Bavaria, near the city of Bayreuth and about 100 km south of Jena. Several large scale research projects, in collaboration with the University of Bayreuth, over the last several years have examined how the fen, its microbes, and the iron cycle change with both drying and wetting events in this partially acidic environment.
